James "Jimmy" P. Penton

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for James "Jimmy" P. Penton, 71 of Columbia, who passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Merritt Health in Hattiesburg. Interment will be at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Larry V. Jenkins will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Hathorn Funeral Home.

As a long-time resident of Marion County, Jimmy faithfully served our nation in the United States Army. He had a love for kids and youth baseball. In the late 1980’s, he started coaching in the Dean Griner Sports Complex. In the 1990’s he made a huge impact with the East Marion High School baseball program…rebuilding the field and assembling an active booster club. He also later served as the Mississippi State Director for the Mississippi Dixie Boys. He had a deep love for the game of baseball and the countless young lives that he impacted.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Perdee & Mary Penton; five Sisters, Loula Mae Meyers, Geraldine Wright, Johnnie Rose Lee, Dorothy Phillips, Barbara Bragg; and two Brothers, Jewell Penton, Vinson Penton.

He is survived by two Sons, James Pat Penton, Jr., of Columbia, Michael Shay Penton (Victoria Peak), of Columbia; one Daughter, Missy Turnage (Dewayne), of Columbia; one Brother, Huey Penton (Elaine), of Dickinson, Texas; two Sisters, Alice Davis, of Columbia, Evon Castaing (Terry Tareux), of Valley Springs, Arkansas; and eleven Grandchildren, Gabriell Wastvedt, Jayce Wastvedt, Hayden Penton, Dylan Penton, Ayden Oxner, all of Columbia, Destiny Turnage (Jordan), Kaylee Stogner (Tyler), Macie Turnage, Chelsey Turnage, all of Franklinton, Louisiana, Makayla Turnage, of Columbia, Abigail Turnage, of Tylertown; and 3 Great Grandchildren, Brayah Stogner, Kayson Rodriuge, Kynslee Rodriuge, all of Franklinton, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Nick Deal, Joey Sibley, Alex Sibley, David “Little D” Hobgood, Russell McNease, and Phillip Coon. Honorary pallbearers will be six of his Grandchildren, Gabriell Wastvedt, Jayce Wastvedt, Hayden Penton, Dylan Penton, Ayden Oxner, and Kayson Rodriuge.
