Edgar "Spooky" Earl Sims, Jr.

Edgar Earl (Spooky) Sims, Jr., 62, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018, at the home of his sister in Columbia following a courageous battle against cancer. He was born October 29, 1956, to Byrle Hood Sims and E. E. (Ras) Sims. A graduate of Columbia High School, he was elected Mr. CHS and was a member of the football team and National Honor Society. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He cherished the life-long friendships he made in college.

He enjoyed golf, working out at the gym, and was a loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints. He was a devoted member of Crosspoint Community Church of Hattiesburg and was thankful for the Christian love and fellowship he found in that congregation. He and his late father were partners in S&S Mini-Storage facilities in Columbia.

Survivors include his sisters, Tootie Murry (Tom) and Lisa Sims, his niece, Lee Stringer, nephews, John Murry and Alex Murry (Meridith), and great nephew and nieces, Porter Price, Evie Murry and Kate Israel. He is also survived by his special cousin, Marilyn Griffin, and many family friends who will miss his sweet and witty personality. He leaves his faithful canine companion, Charlie.

Services will be held at Crosspoint Community Church, 3211 Highway 589, Hattiesburg, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 1:30 p.m., with Dr. Dean Register officiating. Visitation will precede the service at the church beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbia. Pallbearers will be Greg Dale, Tommy Duff, Red Rayburn, Porter Price, Alex Murry, and Bruce Livingston.

Memorials may be made to the ministries of Crosspoint Community Church, P. O. Box 17767, Hattiesburg, MS 39404.

The family wishes to express special appreciation to Spooky’s caregivers, Nancy Robinson, Evelyn Booth, Zack Robertson, and Betty Broome. Their kindness and gentle spirits during difficult times will always be remembered.
