Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Willis Robert Raynes, 89, of Columbia, who passed away Monday, May 19, 2025 at Merit Health Wesley. Interment will be at New Brushy Creek Cemetery in Columbia. Rev. Don Jacobs and Bro. Steve Ellis will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Willis was a cherished and lifelong resident of Marion County. A faithful member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Willis was a beacon of warmth and joy, always ready with a comforting hug, a genuine smile, or a lighthearted joke for everyone he encountered. His vibrant spirit made him a true social butterfly and a beloved people person, effortlessly connecting with all. As the last remaining of ten siblings, he carried the legacy of a large and loving family. Willis lived a happy and content life, characterized by his deep faith and kind nature, leaving behind a legacy of affection and fond memories.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Nancy Mae Raynes; three Step-Sons, Curtis Pierce, Thomas Pierce, Brian Pierce; his Parents, Mike Arthur & Minnie Carden Raynes; one Grandchild, Brianna Pierce; seven Brothers; and two Sisters.
He is survived by his Son, Robert Raynes, of Magnolia; his Daughter, Susan Wallace, of Hattiesburg; seven Grandchildren, John "Trey" Fremont Wallace, III, Scott Pierce, Allen Pierce, Channing Pierce, Jackie Pierce Bennett, Courtney Pierce Sistrunk, Nicole Pierce; a number of Great Grandchildren; and a host of Beloved Nieces & Nephews.
Pallbearers will be Channing Pierce, Scott Pierce, Jacob Pierce, Trey Wallace, Billy Don Sanders, and Troy Sanders.
