Obituary

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on April 20, 2024, at Paul B. Johnson State Park in Hattiesburg, MS, for Timothy Paul Lee, 69, of Columbia, MS. Tim passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Tim was born in Fairhope, AL, to Rev. Dr. George F. Lee, Sr. and Margaret Lee, and grew up in Columbia, MS. After receiving his master's degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Tim began a career dedicated to child advocacy and social justice.

In Tim's professional career and in his personal life, he was a true servant of God and of the neighbor. Whether repairing roofs, providing food to the homeless or donating shoes off his very feet, Tim never hesitated to help a person in need. Tim was the Founder and Executive Director of the Pocono Mountain Center in Tobyhanna, PA, where he strived to uplift children, families, and communities. Tim was named 2017 Humanitarian of the Year, "Champion for Children" by the Monroe County Association for the Education of Young Children, and was recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for his years of distinguished service to Pocono Services for Families and Children.

In the recent years after his retirement, Tim moved back to Columbia. As a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and "Poppy," he centered his life around his family, supporting loved ones during health challenges and spending as much time as possible in the outdoors. His greatest joys were camping and hiking with his beloved wife, Kathy S. Lee, and spending time with his family. He loved cheering on his granddaughters as they performed in their favorite activities, whether on a stage or on a horse.

Tim was known for his sweet tooth, and would never pass up a s'mores, Peanut Butter Parfait, or slice of turtle pie. He was hilarious, and his ever-present sense of humor often brought joy and laughter even during difficult times.

Tim believed whole-heartedly in each person's intrinsic ability to succeed and serve, no matter the obstacles in their path. He inspired many to contribute to the world as he did, and made everyone he encountered feel appreciated and loved.

Above all, Tim was a persistent optimist. As his family cares for each other and grieves this tragic loss, they are reminded of his often repeated saying: "It will all be good."

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Dr. George F. Lee, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Lee; his cherished wife of 47 years, Kathy S. Lee; his son, Joshua Lee; his daughter, Abbey Nash (Scott); two brothers, Fred (Ruth) Lee and Robert (Shelley) Lee; one sister, Lisa Lee Mistich; two granddaughters, Caitlyn and Charlotte Nash; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
