Marie Terrell

Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Jesus Name Apostolic Church Cemetery in Foxworth. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Pleasant Hill Jesus Name Apostolic Church.
Sister Lois Terrell was baptized by Rev. Wilbur Sistrunk in Albany, La and received the Holy Ghost when she was 15 years old.
Soon after receiving the Holy ghost, in 1948, she began to feel the call to the ministry. And when God miraculously brought her daughter, Cheryl, back from the brink of death, she heeded that call, keeping her promise to God that if he would heal her baby, she would preach.
She preached her first revival for Rev. Ray Hudson in Holden, La. where 6 men were filled with the Holy Ghost on that first night.
In 1951 she and her husband founded their first church in Springfield la. And though these were the leanest years of her ministry, God continued to bless and many souls were saved there.
Years later they assumed the pastorate of New Life Pentecostal church in Bogalusa, La. where they experienced great success for the Lord and people continued to be filled with the Holy Ghost.
Then they felt led to begin a home missions work in the city of New Orleans, La. on Magazine St. What began as a home missions work soon became a permanent church and school on Jackson Avenue in New Orleans.
It was at this time Sister Terrell was left alone as a single mother of 10 children to continue the work of God. Nothing would alter her focus and her ministry soared as people came from everywhere to put their hand to the plow and help Sis Terrell in this work.
Although she had begun writing songs in the earliest years of her ministry, this gift would be used even more as it became a great source of strength and comfort during these lonely years as a single mother. Later on, God would bless and provide the resources for her to begin recording these wonderfully anointed songs.
The neighborhood around Jackson Ave. in New Orleans had started becoming rough, and it grew increasingly unsafe to continue the work of God in that location. She began seeking the Lord for guidance in the next step of her journey, and He led her to Metairie, La, a suburb of New Orleans, where a perfect lot was for sale. God would open many doors in order for her to be able to purchase this place.
At times it would seem almost impossible to acquire all the permits and loans needed to begin construction on this beautiful lot, but at every seemingly dead end, God would miraculously come through for her and she built a beautiful church at 828 Orion St in Metairie, Louisiana.
She would pastor there for many years. Many miracles would be performed, and many would be baptized in Jesus Name and receive the Holy Ghost in that church.
Sis. Terrell would continue to write her songs and evangelize, and be used in the ministry for several years while in the church on Orion Ave .
By 1975 she would feel the call to begin evangelizing full time and would leave the church on Orion in Metairie.
It was during one of these revivals that God would lead her into the next phase of her work for him.
Rev. Marvin Terrell was a recently widowed pastor of a church in Foxworth, Mississippi.
She was preaching a revival at his sons church that he attended one night, and on June 25th 1976, after 13 years as a single mother and pastor, she would become a happily married pastors wife, continuing to obey the calling of her ministry.
It was during this time that Sister Terrell would begin work on her first book, as she also continued to write and record songs. She would faithfully help her husband and they would break ground for their new church in 1992.
They would tragically lose a baby girl Robin Denise, after only 3 days of a heart deformity. This was a very painful and difficult time for both of them.
June 5, 1981 she would receive the tragic news of her youngest son, Darrell Paul. being killed. This was the darkest time of her life, and it was her faith in God that pulled her through that unimaginably painful nightmare. She would then lose her second son, Roy Joseph , to a brain aneurysm in 2009. Again, the darkness would consume her, the pain unbearable, but she still held on to her faith in her God. Then again, In 2014 she would receive the devastating news that her son Sam, was stricken with late stage lung cancer.Twenty-one days after losing her beloved husband and best friend of 39 years. She would bury her son, Sam.
Through all the heartache, loss and unimaginable pain, she would remain committed to her calling, and would be responsible for countless souls being saved.
Through her music, and her books, and the powerful anointing on her life, she remained humble and true to her roots. She would unfailingly serve in the ministry for 75 years before going on to that beautiful reward that she spoke of so often.
Words are inadequate to describe the magnitude of the loss, and the painful emptiness we feel with her being gone. But the sadness we feel is not for her, for she has finally received that heavenly reward and gone on to her eternal home.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Bishop Marvin Terrell; three Sons, Roy Gatlin, Samuel Gatlin, Darrell Gatlin; one Daughter, Robin Terrell; one Step-Daughter, Deanie Tippit; her Father, Joseph Bollinger, Sr.; her Mother, Lettie Courtney Hano; three Brothers, Joseph Bollinger, Jr., W.A.
