A Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, at Hathorn Funeral Home. Reverend Chris Camille will officiate the service.

Marie Elizabeth Sandifer, 80, of Columbia, passed away August 12, 2024 with family and friends by her side.

Marie was born in Darbun, MS to Lorraine "Mawmaw" Pounds. The two were extremely close and remained so even after Marie married Gordon Sandifer, her recently deceased husband of sixty-three years.

Marie was at heart a nurturer. She raised three children, Todd, Kelley, and Mechelle often making beautiful clothes for them as well as serving great southern meals at dinnertime when they all gathered around the table.  In addition to being an amazing seamstress, Marie loved to crochet.  You knew she loved you if you were gifted one of her crocheted table clothes to use at your own family table. She also loved plants of all kinds and the family dogs that were lucky enough to find a home with her.

She is survived by her son Todd Sandifer (Joy); her daughter Kelley Lucy (Brent); and her daughter Mechelle Barnes.  Additionally, she is survived by six grandchildren, Vivian Sandifer, Elena Sandifer, Garrison Lucy, Hannah Marie Lucy, Raeleigh Lucy, and Arleigh Little and her sister Joyce Faye Hutchins.

There will be a gathering following the funeral service as a celebration of Marie's life.  Please join us at 60 Stonewall Drive in Hattiesburg MS for food, fellowship, and reminiscing.
