A memorial service will be held on a later date for Lawrence Donald Rayburn, 86, of Columbia who passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Merritt Health Wesley Hospital.
Don was a long-time member of Raceland Methodist Church in Raceland, LA. Don attended Nicholls State in Thibodaux, LA, followed by USL of Lafayette. He is a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army as an artillery mechanic in 1957 and 1958. He was a mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He retired from the oil industry as a drilling fluids engineer.
Don had a love for antiques and art. He also loved music and played numerous instruments, including piano, mandolin, harmonica, and banjo. He especially loved to play a ukulele that was purchased for him by his mom in 1949. He was an avid reader and a great conversationalist as a result. He always knew a little bit about most subjects and loved engaging discussions.
Don never met a stranger. His love of guns and attending gun shows as a vendor opened a whole world of great friends and acquaintances. He loved so well, and he was so well loved by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by "the love of his life" his wife of 25 years, Margie Moorhead Rayburn; his parents, John S. and Ruth C. Rayburn; Son, Larry Glynn Rayburn; Daughter, Shawna Donielle Rayburn; and Sister, Marilyn Janice Summersville.
He is survived by his children, Gregory Don Rayburn (Linda) of Columbia, MS, Dwayne Marshall Rayburn (Monica) of Broussard, LA, Gayla Moorhead Dees (Robert) of Houston, TX, and Bobby Moorhead (Laurie) of Collierville, TN; Grandchildren, Damon Rayburn (Chris) Houston, TX, Christina Rayburn Ramey (Scott) Houston, TX, Crystal Daigle - Maurice, LA, Dustan Daigle (Amanda) Youngsville, LA, McKenzie Boutte (Tavin) Swansboro, North Carolina, Grace Dees of Houston, TX, Carly Dees of Houston, TX, JR Moorhead III (Jess) of Memphis, TN, Kyle Moorhead (Alex) Collierville, TN, Marlie Moorhead Rice (Zack) Collierville, TN, and Luci Moorhead of Collierville, TN; and a host of Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.
