Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Larry William Bird, II, 64, of Columbia, who passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026. Rev. Shane Hoes will officiate the service.

The Bird family will receive guests on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 12:00 pm at Hathorn Funeral Home.

Larry was a man who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life and the warmth of good company. An avid outdoorsman, he was often found with a fishing pole in hand or immersed in his latest woodworking project, crafting pieces with the same patience and care he gave to his loved ones. Larry was the ultimate host who thrived on get-togethers; whether he was presiding over a lively card game or tending to the grill, his presence made every gathering feel like home. He was legendary for his crawfish boils, a tradition that perfectly blended his love for cooking with his passion for bringing people together.

Above all, Larry’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted son, a proud father, loving brother, and a doting grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his kin—and, of course, his faithful dog, LuLu. His legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Bird, I. He is survived by his mother; Rosella Bird; two Sons, Larry Bird, III (Priscilla) of Houston, TX and Cory Bird of Columbia; Daughter, Naomi Lindholm (Chris); Sister, Terena Chauvin (Tim) of Madisonville, LA; two Brothers, Ross D. Bird of New Orleans, LA and Timothy Bird (Robin) of Andersonville, TN; five Grandchildren; his beloved dog, LuLu; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at www.hathornfuneralhome.com.
