Obituary

Kenneth Eugene McCance passed away in Hattiesburg, MS on Wednesday December 2, 2020.

Kenneth was born in Pittsburg, PA on January 23, 1938. He was the oldest of four children by Ralph Morton and Margaret Louise {Geisler} McCance. Ken married June C. {Shinton} McCance who passed away on December 25, 1983.

Ken went to Aleowilde High School and transferred to the trade school, where he learned the printing trade. He earned an Associate degree in Management. An accomplished printer by trade, his work culminated as a department head in the envelope/color file making industry.

Ken was a life time member of the Salvation Army, serving in various roles that included bandsman, youth center director, music teacher, band master, Sunday School teacher, and Corps Council member. He was also recognized as Man of the Year in 2002 by the Salvation Army. Ken was involved in community activities as a Jaycee member in Newburyport and Mason lodges in Newburyport and Columbia, MS.

He is survived by his sister Gale {McCance} Ambrosio. Ken and June had eight children: Kenneth, Stephen, Philip, Mark, Jonathan, Lisa, David, and Cheryl {deceased February 9, 2009}.
Ken will be cremated and buried along side his loving wife and daughter Cheryl in Columbia, MS, where he resided last in his retirement.

The McCance family is a musical one. As a tribute to Ken and his musical contributions, a fund to provide scholarships to attend the advanced Salvation Army Star Lake Music Camp will be set up.
