Kenneth Michael Broom Sr. was born on February 19, 1962 in Columbia, Mississippi to Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Broom.
After moving around Florida and Alabama during his early years, the family settled in Columbia Mississippi where he spent his teenage and young adult years.
A highlight of his growing up years was being a Boy Scout and going to all the meetings and lots of camping trips; he especially remembered Camp Tiak. Boy Scouts taught him skills that he used in his adult and professional life.
One of the most memorable times of his life was playing football at Columbia Academy, where his position was "offensive right guard." He was a fantastic football player giving it his all as he did with everything else in life. His team won the state championship in 1978! It was the highlight of his high school years.
Ken married his high school sweetheart, Nora Riley, in May of 1980. They were blessed with two children: Kenneth Michael Broom Jr was born in October 1983 and Caitlin Rose Broom was born July 1989. The couple also lost three children to miscarriages; twins at four months and another child at two months. They celebrated 44 years of marriage on May 16th of this year.
Ken was fiercely dedicated to providing for his family. He did so through a number of different industries including: the grocery business, meat processing, insurance sales, food service sales, and he eventually found his niche in real estate. Ken excelled at real estate, enthusiastically learning everything he could, and attending many conferences and educational courses to better himself. He enjoyed helping others find the perfect home for their families! He helped shape the Hattiesburg community of realtors as a broker/owner for almost thirty years.
Ken accepted Jesus as his savior as young adult. He was a founding member of CrossPoint Community Church and was ordained as a deacon there. He and Nora hosted a small group in their home for 10 years and enjoyed "doing life" with these special friends.
He loved his family fiercely and was happy to add seven grandchildren to his family. He was always happy to attend whatever activities they were engaged in. Ken was a family man through and through. He touched the lives of all he came in contact with and blessed so many with his time, advice, and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his Brother, Timothy Broom; and his Sister, Lisa Broom.
He is survived by his Wife of forty-four years, Nora Riley Broom, of Hattiesburg; his Son, Michael Broom, Jr. (Jennifer), of Hattiesburg; his Daughter, Caitlin Langham (Tyler), of Ocean Springs; his Parents, Gerald L. & Annette Odom Broom, of Columbia; seven Grandchildren, Lexi Broom, Laikyn Mims, Peyton Mims, Noah Broom, Colton Langham, Rowan Langham, Callan Langham; three Brothers, Mark Broom (Patty), Paul Broom (Karen), Bill Whidden (Julia); one Sister, Stephanie Slay (Michael); and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and other family members.
Pallbearers will be John Porter, Mark Broom, Peyton Mims, Noah Broom, Bradly Baughman, Cody Broom, Travis Bond and Hunter Riley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Colton Langham, Rowan Langham, and Callan Langham.
