Katherine "Kathy"
E Tolar
July 19, 1948 – April 9, 2024
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Lakeview Church of God for Mrs. Katherine "Kathy" E. Tolar, 75, of Columbia, who passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Rev. A.D. Gammill will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Lakeview Church of God.
Mrs. Kathy spent her early childhood on "the dummy line" outside Batesville, MS, playing with her 20+ cousins. Her family moved to Shaw, MS, where she attended school. Kathy then moved to Clarksdale, MS, where she graduated from high school. Kathy moved to Columbia, MS, where she lived for 40 years, bantering with her regular customers at Mom's Café and the Northgate Coffee Shop.
Known as Aunt Leanie to her nieces and nephews, she lived a beautiful life surrounded by her loving family. Kathy never met a stranger and danced while mopping the floor. She enjoyed gardening and collected all different kinds of flowers. She loved God and was always ready to go to a church conference or gospel singing. When the travel bug bit, she and her friends would pack up a cooler and visit various places in the U.S. and abroad. Kathy was an avid reader who started a book circle with her sister and two very close friends, Elaine Sanders and Karen Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Charlotte Jenkins, grandparents, Grover Cleveland and Ina Edna Jenkins, nephews Marty Jenkins, Jimmy Garris, and Mark Jenkins, and niece Brenda.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelia Tolar; one sister, Celeste Litton; three brothers, Louis Jenkins (Colleen), Robert Jenkins (Elaine), David Jenkins (Carol), and nieces and nephews: Joel, Earl, Pam, Jeff, Julie, Donna, Debbie, Christy, Denise, Steven, and Laurie, all of whom she loved dearly.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Lakeview Church of God, Jenkins Cemetery (C/O Celeste Litton, P.O. Box 48, Boyle, MS 38730), or the American Heart Association.
