Interment will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Hathorn Funeral Home.

Joshua Benjamin Purvis was born on December 7, 1976, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, and he passed away on December 22, 2022, at his home in Carson, Mississippi. Josh was a beloved father, brother, uncle, nephew, son, friend, and musician. He always spoke highly of his friends and bragged excessively about the accomplishments of his family.

Always spreading kindness and laughter, Josh spent most of his time with his friends and his family. Whether it be band practice, a crawfish boil, Sunday lunch, or simply a little "pickin' 'n grinnin'," being surrounded by friends and family was truly his happy place. He loved nothing more than bringing a smile to people's faces or playing the tune in peoples' hearts. Many people have described Josh as "humble, unique, and genuine." He would give a stranger the shirt off his back without hesitation. Josh played the bass for several years for several bands, most recently "The Carson Allstars," whose members were as close to him as family. Much like how the bass is a supporting role in a band, Josh was a constant support system for anyone to lean on.

Isaiah 57:1-2 " The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from calamity; he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness." John 16:22 "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you."

He was preceded in death by his Brother, Jason Gilbert "Big Red" Purvis; his Step-Father, Gene Daley; Grandparents, Dr. Wendell and Jo Gilbert, Burl and Flora Purvis; one Step-Brother, Chris Daley; and one Step-Sister, Cindy Daley.

He is survived by four loving Children, Drayton Purvis, of Columbia, Grayce Purvis, of Columbia, Ally Purvis, of Columbia, Hayden Graves, of Columbia; his Father, Jim Purvis (Janet), of Magee; his Mother, Angelia Daley, of Bassfield; two Brothers, Jeremey Purvis (Anna), of Sumrall, Joe Purvis (Kari), of Magee; one Step-Brother, Roland Daley, of Bassfield; three Step-Sisters, Lisa Kaye Sylvest (Mikey), of Bassfield, Diane Hillman (Trent), of Sumrall, Michelle Daley, of Bassfield; and a host of other family members and friends.
