Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Columbia for Joseph Lucas Porter, 40, of Columbia, who passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Forrest General Hospital. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Brett Frazier and Bro. Tom Thurman will officiate the services.  Vonda Smith, Steve Smith and Lissy Smith will provide special music. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Columbia and from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Columbia.

Lucas was a character, known for his witty personality and great sense of humor that often made him the class clown. A smart and loving individual, Lucas cherished his many family members and friends. His strong faith and positive outlook on life were evident in his interactions with everyone he met, a trait he carried with him even before his illness. Lucas' love for people was only matched by his passion for sports, golfing, fishing, hunting, and his beloved alma mater, USM. He also treasured the time spent on family vacations.

He was preceded in death by his two Grandfathers, Claude Porter and Leo Nettles; Grandmother, Mildred Nettles.

He is survived by his Parents, Joey and Shirley Porter of Columbia, MS; two Brothers, Bryan Porter (Andrea) of Columbia, MS, and Chad Porter; Grandmother, Dolores Porter of Natchez, MS; Nephew, Jacob Porter; Niece, Cameron Henebry; three Uncles, Ron Porter (Paula), Sammy Porter (Heather) and Lance Porter (Leslie); Aunt, Sheila King (James); and a host of cousins and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers will be George Clark, Gary Smyly, Dr. Tom Whitehead, Dr. Tom Thurman, Bruce Livingston, Bruce Ratcliff, Dr. Richard Clatterbuck, Dr. Lewis Hatten, and Michael Bradshaw.
