Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for John Daniel Broom, 86, of Columbia, who passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Merit Health Wesley. Interment will be at Manton Broom Family Cemetery in Columbia. Rev. Denny Patterson will officiate the services. Lucas Stringer will provide special music

The Broom family will receive guests on Wednesday morning from 9:00 am up until service time at 11:00 am at Hathorn Funeral Home.

John was a dedicated patriot that faithfully served his nation in the U.S. Army before embarking on a distinguished career as a post engineer at Camp Shelby, from which he retired. Beyond his professional life, John found immense joy in the simple pleasures: the humming of his lawnmower, the sweet reward of picking blueberries, nurturing his tomato plants, and tending to his yard. His quiet dedication to both his country and his hobbies will be forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his Wife of fifty-nine years, Irma Jean Lee Broom; his Parents, Manton & Frances Pace Broom; four Brothers, Ezell Broom, Readus Broom, Clifton Broom, Lloyd Broom; and one Sister, Carrie Bell Bass.

He is survived by his two Sons, Jeff Broom (Renee), of Columbia, Tim Broom, of Columbia; six Grandchildren, Jordan Broom (Glori), Ethan Broom, Manton Broom (Elizabeth), Rebekah Bruce (Jie), Nathanael Mote, Bradley Broom (Patty); five Great Grandchildren, Haven Broom, Artemis Broom, Minerva Broom, Zander Broom and Koa Broom; and a number of Nieces & Nephews.

Mr. Broom will be carried to his final resting place by those honored to serve as pallbearers: Jordan Broom, Ethan Broom, Manton Broom, Bradley Broom, Jerry Broom, and Wesley Bass. The honorary pallbearers will be Steven Stringer, Kevin King, and Michael Baughman.
