Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Joe Ann Franklin, 86, of Columbia, who passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022 at her residence. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Columbia. Bro Tommy Broom will officiate the services. Mike Bennett will provide special music. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Joe Ann was a member of the United States Women's Army Corps and ran track with the Corps training pre-Olympic team. Joe Ann was a cook for 60 years at Jacks Sandwich Shop in Columbia, and 5 years at Debbie's Sandwich Shop in Columbia.
She was a baker and baked fancy cakes for many people. She will be missed by all who loved her dearly and enjoyed her funny sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, James W Franklin; Father, Allen Darr; Mother, Lucy Rankin Darr; two Brothers, George (Sonny) Darr of Columbia, MS, and Charles (Buddy) William Darr of Columbia, MS; two Sisters, Patsy Taylor of Columbia, MS, and Barbara Sue Darr of Columbia, MS.
She is survived by her Son, Gary Franklin (Betti) of Foxworth, MS; Daughter, Paula Carpenter of Columbia, MS; two Brothers, John Darr (Kiok) of Columbus, GA, and Donald Darr (Carol) of Rockmart, GA; four Sisters, Mary Allen Darr of Collins, MS and Betty Stringer (Leroy) of Foxworth, MS, and Pansy Peavy (Shelton) of Columbia, MS, and Linda Taylor of Columbia, MS; three Grandsons, Adam Franklin of Foxworth, MS, Chase Franklin of Foxworth, MS and Andrew Carpenter of Columbia, MS; Granddaughter, Tori McWhirter (Troy) of Columbia, MS; Great Grandchild, Henry Franklin of Foxworth, MS.
Pallbearers will be Alex Stringer, Chase Franklin, Daniel Rankin, George Darr, Andrew Carpenter, and Zachary Popwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Speights and Clayton Dykes.
