Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Jimmy John Boyd, Jr., 63, of Columbia, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at his residence. The Boyd family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Thursday morning up until the hour of service at 10:00 am, all at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Jimmy fought his cancer battle with strength and dignity for over two years. He was hardly ever seen without a smile on his face. He was a true inspiration to those around him.
Jimmy was born on February 3, 1962 in Tylertown, Mississippi to Jimmie J. Boyd, Sr. and Vera Baughman Boyd. Jimmy graduated from Columbia High School in 1980, and spent most of his adult life in Columbia.
Jimmy worked for many years as a crane operator / welder for offshore oil companies such as PenRod & TODCO. In 2006 Jimmy came home to operate Boyd's Dozer Service with his Father for several years. He would later go on to become a faithful employee of Beacon Supply Company, Inc., which is owned by his longtime friend, Greg Prine.
Jimmy was a lifelong gun enthusiast. He found great joy in tinkering with guns and talking about guns to those friends who shared that same interest, or to anyone else who would listen. He was a true handy man and would tackle most any job or project.
Jimmy married the love of his life, Shirley Lowery Boyd in 1982. Together they have two wonderful children, Casey and Tina. Jimmy was affectionately referred to as "Pops" by his Grandchildren, Chesney, Abbie, and Kix. He won't be able to meet his Grandchild due to arrive in June. He was delighted for another little boy. Jimmy was always the funniest and the goofiest version of himself when his Grandchildren were around.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his Father, Jimmie J. Boyd, Sr.; his Paternal Grandparents, Victor & Johnnie Lee Boyd; his Maternal Grandparents, Lester V. Smith & Maudie Baughman; and his In-laws, John T. & Evelyn Lowery.
His memory will always be cherished by his loving Wife of forty-two years, Shirley Boyd, of Columbia; his Son, Casey D. Boyd (Angelle), of Ethel, Louisiana; his Daughter, Tina L. Hamilton (David), of Lucedale; his Mother, Vera Boyd, of Columbia; one Sister, Vicky Young (Clyde), of Columbia; three Grandchildren, Chesney June Hamilton, of Lucedale, Abigail Marie Boyd, of Ethan, Louisiana, Kix Jennings Hamilton, of Lucedale; and multiple Nieces, Nephews, and a host of Friends who referred to Jimmy as "Jim Bob."
Jimmy will be carried to his final rest by those honored to serve as Pallbearers; they include, Josh Jones, Greg Prine, Dewayne Ervin, Grant McArthur, Jess McMurry, Jackie Locke, Brandon Prine, and Robert Lowery.
"We are confident, I say and willing to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." (II Corinthians 5:8, KJV)
