Obituary

James Thomas White of Brandon, 78, entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at The Orchard in Ridgeland following an extended illness.

A native of Columbia, Mississippi, Tommy was a 1961 graduate of Columbia High School and a 1965 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He was employed with Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co., Ernst and Ernst, and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 2005 after 30 years of service. He was baptized at Hathorn Baptist Church at an early age and a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church for over 50 years. In his later years he enjoyed reading the Bible and affirming his faith with his family. His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard after six years of service and was an active member of the Lions Club. Tommy enjoyed spending time with family, watching USM Golden Eagles football, playing tennis, and fishing. He was an avid history buff.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Major Beason White and Elsie Louise Rogers White and a sister, Helen White Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sybil Fortenberry White, a sister, Shirley White Jones (Melvin "Buddy") of Columbia, a brother, Jerry Beason White (Glenda) of Spring Hill, Tennessee, two daughters, Mary Carol White Ladd (Banks) of Mobile, Alabama and Melinda White Roberson (Jason) of Brandon, four grandchildren, Adam Culp Roberson, Sybil Caroline Roberson, Sadie Davis Ladd, and Virginia Carol Ladd, and a host of extended family.

A graveside memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery under the care of Hathorn Funeral Home.
