Jackie was known for his jolly personality and sense of humor; he fully believed that "laughter is the best medicine." He was a steadfast pillar of faith and was unashamed to tell others he was going to heaven and wanted them to go with him. He always sang the phrase from one of his well-loved songs, "I'm a Winner Either Way, If I Go or If I stay." A man of many talents, he was a skilled floor layer, handyman, and "jack of all trades." He possessed a soulful passion for southern gospel music that resonated with his deep love for singing. He began at a young age singing around the piano with his brothers and sister, eventually forming a quartet with his brother and friends. He was the song leader for many years at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Victory Tabernacle Baptist Church, and Enon Baptist Church, where he was a member. He also loved fishing and took pride in his mounted 5-pound bass. Above all else, he was a devoted family man whose greatest legacy remains the profound love and guidance he provided to those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Clarence "Dank" Broom; his Mother, Irene Temple Broom; and his two Brothers, Nelson Broom, Denson Broom.
He is survived by his Wife, of 54 years, Sharon Bond Broom, of Columbia; two Sons, Richard "Ricky" Broom (Rebecca), of Columbia, Nathan Broom, of Columbia; three Daughters, Kelli Robbins (Andy), of Columbia, Bethany Simmons (Will), of Columbia, Rebecca Seall, of Columbia; one Brother, Arvin Broom (Ann); one Sister, Linda Williamson (Joe); two Sisters-In-Law; Margie Broom Stuart, Ladell Williamson Broom; seven Grandchildren; Savannah Rippy (Landon), Tyler Broom, Drew Robbins (Madison), Darrin Robbins, Ethan Simmons, Owen Simmons, Kadyn Seall; three Great Grandchildren; Adelina Rippy, Landry Rippy, Jensen Rippy; and a host of Nephews, Nieces, and Friends.
Mr. Broom will be carried to his final place of rest by those honored to serve as Pallbearers; they include his Grandsons; Tyler Broom, Drew Robbins, Darrin Robbins, Ethan Simmons, Owen Simmons, and Nephew, David Broom. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews, Andy Williamson, Damon Williamson, and Adam Broom.
The family wishes to thank everyone for every need that has been met. This includes help with care, food, calls, texts, groceries, financial needs, and most of all, prayers. Your love has helped in so many ways.
