Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Howard Edsel Magee, 87, of Columbia, who passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his residence. Interment will be at Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Diana Deaton High will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Howard Edsel Magee was born October 28, 1933 in Bassfield, Mississippi, the son of Howard G. Magee and Edna Earl Speights Magee. He attended Bunker Hill School and graduated from Bunker Hill High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 through 1957, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an electrician and supervisor in the Nuclear Division of Ingall's Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He retired in 1997 and returned to the Columbia area where he grew up. He attended Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church in Columbia for many years, and he was a B.P.O.E. Member #2870, Lodge #1120 in Pascagoula, Mississippi since 1978.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Howard G. and Edna Earl Speights Magee; brothers, Grayson (Mary Sue, deceased), Dan Magee (Kathleen) and Frank Pittman Magee (Carolyn); sister, Margaret Magee Harvey (J.C., deceased); and step-daughter, Becky Hutto Weir.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carol Baker Magee; sons, Randy Magee (Louise), of Oakland, California, Steve Magee (Laurie), of Sumrall, Glen Magee (Brenda), of Denver, Colorado, David Magee (Renee) of Pascagoula; daughter, Cathy Bray (Gary), of Denver, Colorado; step-sons, Fred Hutto, Jr. (Karen), of Clinton, Mike Hutto (Ligia), of Ocean Springs; Grandchildren, Bill Magee, Caitlin Magee Stineman (Jordan), Laura Magee Venegas (A.J.), Jeff Magee (Jamie), Tim Magee (Lenea), Joe Magee (Karlie), Melissa Magee, Patrick Magee, Gary Lee Bray, Christie Bray, Drew Hutto, William Weir (Cameron), Davis Magee, Haley Magee; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Ouida Bryant (Grayson, deceased), Volia Gaddis (Roger), Sybil Bullock (Johnny, deceased), Linda Forsman (George); and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Randy Magee, Steve Magee, Glen Magee, Fred Hutto, Jr., Mike Hutto, and David Magee. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jay Mattison, Frank Matkins, William Weir, Jeff Magee, Tim Magee, Joe Magee, and Bill Magee.
