A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia for Glyn Dale Simmons, 82, of Baton Rouge, LA, who passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025. Rev. Valton Douglas will officiate the services.
Glyn Dale Simmons was born September 7, 1942 in Pascagoula, MS to wartime parents, Ireece and Allie Ray Simmons. Glyn being their first son would go on to be raised in the small town of Improve, MS, later enjoying his siblings Frances, Alvin and Sandra. He led a carefree idyllic childhood running through woods and swimming in Little River creek. Glyn was baptized in this same creek, leading to a lifelong love of his Lord and savior. Glyn attended Improve School, 1st through 12th grade where excelled as Captain of his basketball team, Class President and reached Life Status in the Boy Scouts before his group dismembered. He attended Pearl River Junior College until Uncle Sam called him to serve in the United States Air Force. He proudly served four years during the Viet Nam War era. Being honorably discharged he returned home to the small town of Improve ready to make his mark in the world. In 1960 he began a career working for Southern Bell as a lineman in Biloxi, MS. After making it through several company mergers, Southern Bell, South Central Bell, BellSouth and finally AT&T. For 35 years, Glyn held several marketing positions, retiring while in the Consultant Liaison Program where he served as President of the Society of Telecommunications Consultants. Glyn always had a true interest and respect for all people. He always lit up a room when he was around, especially when his daughters, Tasha, Tia, Tatum (deceased) , Angie and Kristen were around. Glyn is a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. Glyn was loved and will be missed by so many.
