Obituary

A private graveside service will be held for Fannie Mae Turnage, 79 of Foxworth, who passed away Monday, August 17, 2026. Interment will be at Hubert Turnage Family Cemetery in Foxworth next to her husband of 46 years. Chris Turnage will officiate the services.

The Turnage family will receive guests on Wednesday Evening from 5:00 pm up until 9:00 pm at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia.

Fannie Mae (Stogner) Turnage, 79, passed away on August 17th, 2026, following an extended illness. Fannie was born on September 11th, 1946, to Iva Marie Stringer Stogner and Buford Hertis Stogner. She was the second of five siblings which included three brothers and one sister.

In addition to her parents, Fannie was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Lee Turnage Sr and two brothers, Eron Buford Stogner and Lester Nolan Stogner. She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Michelle Turnage Pittman (Jerry) and two sons, Hubert L. “Sandy” Turnage Jr (Amy) and Robert Andy Turnage (Jennifer), nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Fannie graduated from West Marion High School in 1964. While attending West Marion, she met the love of her life, Hubert Lee Turnage. They were married on Sunday, December 22nd, 1963, at Turnage Chapel Church in Foxworth Mississippi. After graduation, the newlyweds moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where Hubert worked at Kaisers Aluminum while Fannie was a homemaker. They welcomed their first child, Cindy, while living there. However, in 1965 they decided to move back home to Foxworth, Mississippi to take over the family dairy farm, build a home and raise their family. They welcomed their second child, Sandy, in 1966 and third, Andy, in 1974.

Fannie also drove a school bus for Marion County School District for several years. Her route consisted of a rural route in west Marion County transporting students from the areas around New Home Church, Turnage Chapel Church and Shiloh Church. She had many fond memories and more than a few interesting stories from her time as a bus driver. She maintained lifelong friendships with many of the people who had ridden her bus as a student.

The most important things in Fannie’s life were faith and family. She, along with the rest of the family, attended Turnage Chapel Church for many years. After experiencing health issues, she continued to attend church services virtually. Her favorite bible verse is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse will be recited by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at her graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to a local church or favorite charity.

Mrs. Turnage will be carried to her final resting place by those honored to serve as Pallbearers; Jeremy Pittman, Justin Pittman, Eli Turnage, Colby Turnage, Cooper Combs, Jerry Pittman.

Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at www.hathornfuneralhome.com.
