Obituary

Our mother, Ernese Carlisle Robertson, age 95, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021, due to heart failure. She was born on July 19, 1926, in Goss, Mississippi, to Matthew Houston Carlisle and Fannie Buckley Carlisle. On November 28, 1947, she married her sweetheart - our Daddy - Robert Glynn Robertson, who preceded her in death in 2008.

Momma/Mommy dearly loved the three girls she and Daddy raised. She sewed beautiful dresses for each of us and made sure we always had three meals a day. She was there when we left for school each morning, and waiting for us when we got home. Every summer, she toiled in our family's vegetable garden - planting and harvesting tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, beans, squash - you name it, we had it. Unfortunately, we three girls had to help pick and shell those peas and beans, and shuck the corn during our summer vacation. On Sundays, she dressed us up in our pretty dresses, and she and Daddy took us to Goss Baptist Church, where we learned at an early age that Jesus should be first in our lives. If He wasn't always first, it wasn't because we weren't taught He should be. Momma and Daddy were wonderful parents, and we always knew how much we were loved.

Momma was later blessed with a new generation of children and a new status - that of being Mamaw/Meemaw. Her grandsons enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting practice on her property, and eating her fine country cooking. Her two granddaughters, Sarah and Leah, likely received more hands-on attention from our Momma, as she sewed her little granddaughters pretty dresses and taught them how to make tea cookies during summer days spent with her.

The arrival of great-grandchildren brought Mommy a whole new level of love to give and receive. Though she was unable to do as much for her ten great grandchildren, her love for them was boundless.

In addition to sewing for her girls, she worked with her church's Sew Missions group, stitching many beautiful quilts for mission projects. Her hands were rarely still until her eyesight began to fail. She loved planting and growing flowers - especially lavender and purple ones. She also shared her love by cooking for church events and her ever-growing family.  Chicken and dumplings, pecan pie and Angel food cake (with the secret ingredient) were specialties we always looked forward to. But her homemade chocolate milk was the absolute best EVER!

Our momma was predeceased by her parents, her husband Glynn, her precious daughter, Glenda Ernese Duncan, her sister, Duthel Cooper, and her two brothers, Hunter Carlisle and Arnold Carlisle. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Jean Everitt and husband Purvis (Pelahatchie, MS), Beverly Pritchard and husband Robert (Madison, MS), son-in-law Mike Duncan of Goss, MS (Monica), grandchildren, Jared Everitt and wife Jessica (Brandon, MS), Brian Everitt and wife Hayley (Slidell, LA), Leah Pritchard Ross and husband Steven (Gluckstadt, MS), Dylan Pritchard and wife, Meghan (Madison, MS), William Duncan and wife Jennifer (Goss, MS), Sarah Duncan Temples and husband Brian (Goss, MS), step-grandson Josh Broom and wife Skyler (Improve, MS); great grandchildren Tyler Duncan, Tate Temples, LenLee "Baby Doll" Temples, Bell Duncan and Nathan Duncan (all of Goss, MS), Shelby Everitt (Brandon, MS), Nolan and Jack Ross (Gluckstadt, MS), Rowen Pritchard (Madison, MS), and Winston Broom (Improve); nieces Nelda Jean Evans of Hattiesburg, MS (Kendall) and Bennie Rayburn (Wayne - Goss, MS), sister-in-law Gladys Robertson (Columbia, MS), and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by Callie, her calico cat - Momma's constant companion for many years.

Our deepest gratitude to Sarah, Brian, Tyler, Mike, William, and the rest of our Goss family for helping take care of Momma for the past 3-1/2 years since Glenda passed away. Special thanks to Asbury Hospice House for keeping Momma comfortable during her final days and for making it a little easier for us - her family - to let her go.
