Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia for Elizabeth Rita Shivers, 83, of Columbia, who passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at her residence. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Father Tommy Conway will officiate. A Rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Hathorn Funeral Home, and visitation will follow from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Hathorn Funeral Home.

As a native of Newfoundland, Canada, Rita moved to the United States in 1958. She was a secular Franciscan of the Catholic Church, where she lived to meet the needs of the less fortunate around her. She devoted her life to her faith and her family. Rita loved knitting, crocheting, and baking. Her friends and family will always remember her works as wonderful Christian mother and wife.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Alexander & Ruth Maloney; and one Sister, Veronica Hearn.

She is survived by her Husband of 63 years, Reese Donald Shivers, of Columbia; one Son, Kenneth Shivers (Mary), of Humble, Texas; three Daughters, Deborah Merritt, of Columbia, Rowena Massengale, of Columbia, Donna Shivers, of Columbia; two Sisters, Bernadette Maloney, of Toronto, Canada, Carmel Dooley, of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada; one Brother, Howard Maloney, of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada; six Grandchildren; and five Great Grandchildren.
