Charles E.
Morman, Jr.
September 30, 1942 – December 3, 2022
On Saturday, December 3, 2022, Charles Emory Morman, Jr., loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 80 at home in Jackson, MS.
Charles was born September 30, 1942, in Columbia, Mississippi to Charles, Sr. and Rivers (Fortenberry) Morman. After living in Gulfport and Pascagoula as a child, the family settled in Jackson where he graduated from Central High School in 1960. Charles served in both the Army and National Guard. He was employed by Central Paper Company of Jackson, where he remained for 40 years performing as their accountant and later as Vice President.
In 1985, Charles returned to his birthplace, Columbia, when he married Merl. Together with his cousin, Robert Bourne, they purchased and managed Alpha Chemical and Paper Company in Hattiesburg until 2007. He and Merl then retired to his family home in Jackson. Charles was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and the Berean Sunday school class. He enjoyed weekly lunches with his friends, and valued friendships and family above all.
Charles was passionate about his faith in Jesus and was known for his heartfelt prayers. Each morning upon waking he recited, "This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it," before kneeling at bedside to pray. He was also known for his infectious smile and compassionate spirit. Grandson Christopher described him as "the nicest and best grandfather I could have asked for with non-stop optimism and sweetness."
He is preceded in death by his father "Bud," his mother, "Sugar Babe" and daughter Janet Ranae Morman. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Merl Sullivan Morman and four children, Charles E. Morman III, Michelle (Chris) Perritt, and stepchildren Paul Clinton and Sharyl Clinton (Ron) Donegan, along with 10 grandchildren: Chrystle, Chase, Brayden, Emori, Christopher, Caroline, Catherine, Sulli, Lucy, and Lizzie.
A graveside service is to be held at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Columbia on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 11am. All friends and family are invited to attend. Pallbearers will be Christopher Clinton, Paul Clinton, Ron Donegan, Lawrence Hahn, Chip Herrington, Orren Vassillion, Patrick Black, and Clay Conerly.
