Obituary

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Betty Elizabeth Cooper, 89, of Lumberton, who passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025 at her residence. Bro. Roger Miller will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Hathorn Funeral Home.

Betty was a talented seamstress, known for her ability to sew anything imaginable. In her free time, she enjoyed reading thrillers and dramas, with a special fondness for authors Janet Evanovich and John Grisham. Betty was a faithful member of the Eastern Star and dedicated over twenty years as a school bus driver for Baxterville Attendance Center. She also cherished her weekly Bunko games with her friends, a highlight that her husband, Frank, often joked about saying, "she could be sick all week, but come Bunko day, she's gonna be good to go, and I'm gonna be hungry!"

She was preceded in death by her Husband of sixty-six years, Frank Oliver Cooper; her Son, Jerry Randall "Randy" Cooper; her Parents, Robert & Amy Kenney Culpepper; one Brother, James Culpepper; and one Sister, Lettie Mae Byrd.

She is survived by her Daughter, Mary Katherine "Kathy" Smith, of Tylertown;  two Grandchildren, Michelle Thompson (Jeff), of Columbia, Tiegha Seals (Joe), of Lumberton; three Great Grandchildren, Hailey Thompson, of Columbia, Lexie Sanders, of Lumberton, Karmyn Sanders, of Lumberton.
