Obituary

With humble acceptance of God's will, the family announces the passing of Anita Brumfield Lawrence on May 5, 2025.  Anita was born October 5,1956 in Picayune, Mississippi, daughter of the late, Doye Laseter Brumfield; Lyndell Ann Sullivan Brumfield and Thad Brumfield.

Anita, beloved wife of David E. Lawrence, grew up in Columbia, Mississippi and married in Marion County.  David and Anita were married for thirty-two years.  She is survived by her brother, Lank Brumfield; one nephew, Michael; and one niece, Melissa. She was the stepmother of Jacqueline L. Graham (Johnny), of Diamondhead, Dr. William (Bill) Lawrence (Lynn), of  Athens, Alabama; Melody L. Hicks (Stevie), of Columbia, Pete McNeese (Vickie), of Columbia. Anita always welcomed into the Lawrence home her grandchildren; Evan & Emily Cameron, William & Claire Lawrence, Tyson & Eli Hicks, Trace McNeese, Sissy Stringer.  She was much loved by her sister-in-law; Marti and niece, Genessa.  "A friend loveth at all times", Proverbs 17:17...Anita's dearest longtime friend, Ramona Brumfield, along with family, was by her side to the end.  She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Anita was a member of East Columbia Baptist Church.  She was employed by Citizens Bank for twenty years.  Anita assisted in her husband's appliance and electric business.  She was a wonderful homemaker that enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and square dancing with her husband. Anita loved traveling to the mountains and the beach to enjoy relaxing, sightseeing, and watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  She could be counted on to assist people in need.  Anita was known for her fondness of animals, especially cats.  Folks were greeted in the Lawrence home by much loved cats and dogs.  Word got around about her kind heart and she would often find many unwanted cats and dogs at her doorsteps.  David patiently helped her with the animal care, feeding, and vet visits.  Family members joked that one day she might move into the Veterinarian Clinic.  Anita loved laughter and went along with the family teasing.

Every farewell is a sunset that always awaits the sunrise. In our journey, Memories are lasting and Goodbyes are not forever; they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again.
